CANCELLATION OF THE FINAL ROUND OF AIC SPORT
Please refer to the statement issued by the AIC Management Committee regarding the cancellation of the final round of AIC chess, football, rugby and the upcoming AIC rugby league tournaments.
BASKETBALL HIRE SINGLET – PLEASE RETURN!
Thank you to all the students who have returned their basketball singlets. At this point we still have many singlets which are still outstanding. Just a reminder to parents and students to hand in their singlets to the Uniform Shop as per the Morning Notices. If singlets are not returned (clean/washed) by the end of term a “non-return” fine of $80 will be applied. The student who has not returned the singlet will not be permitted to play in 2021 until the singlet is returned.
VILLANOVA SWIMMING
Please be advised that the Villa swim program has commenced for all students from Years 5-12 this week. We understand that many of our students may be involved in the various sports and activities going on this term. We are hoping many more students will join the program as of week 1 next term.
All students who are interested need to complete the online swimming rego/payment form that is available from the AIC Swimming section on the website. We encourage as many boys as possible to participate. Our success in 2021 is dependent upon the work put in this year!
Pictured above – we have approximately 12 boys training already, not including the club swimmers – no doubt more will join when this hectic term of sport is over
Training commenced for all current students on Tuesday 8 September 2020 and will continue every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning throughout the entire season. For those students who are commencing at Villanova in Years 5 and 7 in 2021, training will commence in Week 1, Term 4 2020 (on Tuesday 6 October) as per the schedule below. These sessions will run up to and include Friday 18 December 2020. The program will recommence on Monday 4 January 2021 and will run until the end of Week 1, Term 1, 2021 at which time selection trials will be held.
More information regarding these time trials will be given next year.
While the College appreciates that some students may choose to continue their pre-season training elsewhere, we would encourage all swimmers to consider joining the College’s program. All students who are interested in joining Villanova’s swim team will be required to attend trials in Week 1, 2021. Participation or non-participation in our pre-season schedule will not guarantee a place in our final squad. However, we do believe it will strengthen your chance to do well at the trials and aid in building a strong College swimming culture.
All training sessions will be held at Langlands Park Memorial Pool, located at 5 Panitya Street, Stones Corner. All training sessions will be under the direction of Mr Gilly Santos – Villanova Swim Coach (Years 9 – 12) and Ms Kerry Holland – Villanova Swim Coach (Years 5 – 8).

Fees: A flat fee of $150 will be charged per student for all training sessions up until the start of the 2021 school year. This includes all sessions over the summer holiday period. Students are then entitled to attend as many training sessions as possible throughout this period. Altogether, those who join the program could have access up to 50 training sessions throughout this period at a cost of only $150 (this is $3 per session by highly skilled and qualified swim coaches). The more sessions you attend the more value for money you receive. This represents outstanding value.
Kerry Holland has asked all members of the Jets Swim Club to participate in at least one of the Villanova squad sessions each week. These additional sessions will help build team spirit and provide further skills training for Met East squads, and relay practice.
For those wishing to enroll in the swim program, please click the link below to register your details online. Information regarding payment can also be found within this link. Please understand that the personal details and emergency contact information provided within the registration form will be shared with the staff from Langlands Pool. Langland Pool does not have access to the College’s data base and needs your contact information in the event of an emergency. If your details change you must notify the Sports Office (details below) as the updated information the College receives is not shared with Langlands Pool. If you do not wish for your emergency details to be shared with the staff from Langlands Pool, we will be unable to allow you to participate in the program.
Villanova Swimming Registration Link – https://form.jotform.com/VillanovaSport/aic-swimming-registration—202021-
Flipper/Pool Buoy and Bag: All students are required to purchase their own flippers and pool buoy for training. Langlands Pool will supply your son with a training pack at a cost of $75. Please find attached to the swim rego form found on the website an order form, which must be lodged with Langlands Park Pool directly (not Villanova College) to receive your training gear at a discounted price.
Special Welcome Meeting: A special meeting will be held for all squad members on Friday 9 October at Langlands Pool. This meeting will take place after the training session scheduled that day (training will finish a little early that day). All squad members are invited to join the meeting including students entering the College in Year 5 and Year 7 in 2021. It is simply a meet and greet with all coaches and managers and a run through of the season. The meeting will conclude at 8.00am.
For those who wish to take advantage of this opportunity, please complete all information required in the registration link above. It is common for most boys to commence the program in Term 4 although there is an option to start earlier for the current students. Late comers into the swim program will be accepted; however, they will be required to pay the full fee.
If you have any further queries please contact the Villanova College Swim Co-ordinator, Mrs Juanita Jacobs via email jjacobs@vnc.qld.edu.au. Alternatively, please contact the Sports Office on 3394 5621 or via email sportsoffice@vnc.qld.edu.au
AIC WATER POLO
At present the AIC Water polo Tournament date has not been scheduled for 2020. Although no details have been released, it is highly likely that AIC will run a one-day tournament again this year. By early next term we hope to advertise more details including the divisions, the date and the sign-on process.
AIC RUGBY
Mr Chris Everding, AIC Rugby Co-ordinator
In order to get the boys games and not have byes, we had to do a bit of searching to have everyone run around last Saturday. Thanks to all of our coaches for preparing the teams knowing that reserves were going to be scarce and to the parents for getting the boys to the various venues.
In last Saturday’s round against St Peters Lutheran College, Villanova came away with 15 wins and 10 losses. There were some tough, hard-fought games in all A division matches and unfortunately the Firsts experienced yet another close loss against a determined opposition.
The Year 5 and 6 teams continued their promising season with eight wins from eight games.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge our Year 12 men. They have represented the College with pride over the years. I remember many of them running around for their first year of Villa Rugby in 2013 in Year 5. They had some narrow wins against Iona and Gregory Terrace and a couple of narrow losses against TSS, Ashgrove and SLC. They went on to win premierships in Year 7, 8 and 9 and were our flagship team. We hope to see them on the rugby field at clubland in the future.

AIC FOOTBALL
Mr Anthony Kemp, AIC Football Co-ordinator
Villanova enjoyed a successful round taking on St Peters and managed to take home 17 wins, 6 draws and 9 losses with many teams continuing their great season. We have a total of nine sides who remain undefeated.
The stage was certainly set for a thrilling game in the First XI match up as both sides entered on the same points and goal difference. Ultimately, the winner would have gone through to the grand final. The game lived up to the hype as it was an intense back and forth game with both sides pushing their claims to go through to the decider. A hard-fought first half saw St Peters score first just before the half time whistle. The second half was a different story for our Villa boys as we looked to score an equaliser that saw us create several opportunities. We certainly looked to be the stronger side as St Peters attempted to defend their lead from the outset of the second half. It was arguably the goal of the season that levelled things up for Villa with an excellent ball into the box being volleyed into the back of the net. Our boys went up another gear from this moment as we created many chances with one opportunity almost crossing the line in the dying stages. The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Our First XI can hold their heads high on their undefeated season, a great achievement.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the Seniors the very best and hope that they look back on their Villa football days with fond memories.
Finally, a big thank you to all the coaches, players and officials for their efforts throughout the season. Although it has been a shortened season, it has been an absolute pleasure watching the boys prepare each week and then leave it all out on the park in their games on a Saturday!

AIC CHESS
Mrs Sally England, AIC Chess Co-ordinator
The third and final round in the chess season was completed last week when we played St Peters at home. Again, it was a mixed night with three wins and four losses. The three winning teams were the Senior B team of Mason Luu, Connor Whitby, Christian Dang and Blake Waugh who were undefeated, the Intermediate A team of Alex Hulme, Tom Winn, Harrison Bryant and Oliver Wills – who also went through undefeated, and the Junior B team (also undefeated) of Beau House, Adam Ibrahim, Josh Syned, Daniel Cooney and Hamish O’Toole. Congratulations to those boys. Further congratulations go to the whole team for the modified season as it was difficult to navigate. Hopefully next year we will be back to normal.

ZONE CRICKET
All cricket teams for the Term 4 competition will be published on the College website next week. Coaches and managers will be in contact with parents about the season ahead and responsibilities that need to be fulfilled. Training for all year levels next term will begin the first Tuesday morning back (Monday is a public holiday). The training schedule will also be in ‘Locker Room’ on the College website. If there is a clash with other commitments, please contact the sports office and we will have a look at managing the clash. The first round of matches will begin on Saturday the 10th October and the draw for the season will be sent to all parents by team managers once they have been advertised.
Thank you to Ross Whitby and Jeff Ilka for all the pre-season work you have put in to get teams finalised and all the other requirements that need to be completed before teams can take the field. Thanks also to the parents for volunteering to be assistant coaches and co-ordinate the placement of players into teams. Due to numbers, some age groups will cross over and join together to make a combined team, so all boys will get a game each week.
CRICKET CAMP – SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
10K Sports will run a cricket camp for all interested students from Years 5 to 8 during the up-coming holidays at Villanova Park on 30 September and 1 October. This will be a great opportunity for our players to hone their cricketing skills before the up-coming club season and the AIC cricket trials which will be conducted early to mid-next term.
All registration details are found below as well as being posted on the website under the AIC Cricket section. We encourage all cricketers to attend.
