Beyond sport, music and ministry, Villanova provides numerous opportunities for students to share and grow their gifts and talents.
Debating
All students at Villanova have the opportunity to compete in the Queensland Debating Union (QDU) competitions. However, there are team restrictions depending on year level.
Junior School students can field up to eight teams in years 5 and 6; Middle School students can field up to four teams in years 7 and 8, and three teams in years 9 and 10; and Senior School students can field up to two teams in years 11 and 12.
Tournament of Minds
Each year, students from all year levels are invited to participate in Tournament of Minds (TOM). This international school program pits teams of Villanova students against other schools’ teams in a competition of intense problem solving.
At its core, TOM strives to enhance the skill diversity, time management and collaborative ability of its competitors, while providing the rewards and challenges of healthy competition.
Teams solve problems birthed from a range of disciplines including:
Science Technology
Language Literature
Engineering Mathematics
Social Sciences
TOM teams are typically comprised of boys from the Junior and Middle schools, and Villanova students have enjoyed recent success at regional, state and national levels.
