We often say that Villanovans look after their own. Ryan West, Director of Key West Electrical and Villanova Old Boys (graduate of the class of 2013) has demonstrated this, by offering a School-Based apprenticeship to one of our current Year 12 students, Riley. Riley was the perfect candidate, as a Year 12 student who had already completed Work Experience in this field under the College’s Work Experience Program. He was very keen to get started on his future career path as an Electrician!
Key West Electrical is active in both the residential and commercial sector and is being sort out for Tier 1 Builder Contracts including MainPro, recent work on an NAB building, and Mexicali, a soon to open Cocktail Bar in Brisbane’s bustling Oxford Street precinct.
Ryan is ‘keeping it in the family’, with two other qualified electricians in his team also being Villa Old Boys, from the class of 2014. The team from Key West Electrical, along with Riley’s parents (James and Kerrie), Julie Duffy, Head of Careers and Pathways at Villanova, Christine Rynne and Hayley Goss, both representatives from School Community Industry Partnerships (SCIPS) who partner with the College in the management of Work Experience and School Based Apprenticeship programs, and Taren Cooper, representative from apprenticeship support network provider, BUSY At Work, were all at Villanova this week for the official Electrical Apprenticeship ‘sign-up’.
Congratulations Riley – we are so proud of you! And thank you Ryan! What an awesome start to this young man’s career!
